Hello all,
Sukkot starts tonight and it's going to be a fantastic week. There are events
nearly every day and I hope I'll see each of you at least one of them.
TODAY, WEDNESDAY the 29th--
-Rachel & I will be cooking this afternoon. If you want to help, call me
at x4838 or my cell 978 660 4803.
-6pm- Big holiday dinner. We'll at least do some blessings in the Sukkah
but if its raining we'll have our dinner and kiddush and light our candles in
the spiritual life center. upstairs in the center of donut 5. The sukkah should
be up by then and it should be in between the RCC and Greenwich. As its
raining now we probably won't decorate it today but we'll do that really soon.
-6:30- UMass Hillel will be holding Modern Orthodox services in their
sukkah adn will have dinner and a tish at 9:30pm.
THURSDAY the 30th--
-10am- UMass Hillel and the Jewish Community of Amherst will be holding
services in the Hillel House sukkah with a light lunch to follow. (There's a
sign up for the lunch and you might need a meal transfer from Roberta or have
to pay a little bit.)
-6pm dinner in the sukkah with kiddush, candles, and the lulav. ***We
still need someone to organize this one.***
-Feel free to use the sukkah for any meals throughout the holiday or to
decorate it on your own.
FRIDAY the 1st--
-Do-it-yourself meals in the sukkah all day.
-6pm- Shabbat dinner with kiddush and candles. ***Rachel has volunteered
to organize this one. Please help her cook and set up.***
SATURDAY the 2nd--
- Dinner in the Sukkah. I've invited Rabbi Lisa to join us for this meal
and give a D'var Torah (little talk about this week's portion). Maybe we'll
combine this program with a Havdalah service to end the Sabbath. Times still
TBA.
SUNDAY the 3rd--
-Do-it-yourself meals in the sukkah all day.
-12noon- Meet at UMass Newman Center with the 5-college interfaith
community to cook meals for Meals on Wheels and eat with the residents of Ann
Whalen House in Amherst.
-7:30pm- Hillel house. Bluegrass jam in the sukkah. Bring your instruments
and tunes. Come to play, sing, or listen. Food, of course, will be provided as
well.
MONDAY the 4th--
-Do-it-yourself meals in the sukkah all day.

the sukkah. Food too.

WEDNESDAY the 6th--
-Do-it-yourself meals in the sukkah all day.
THURSDAY the 7th--
-Do-it-yourself meals in the sukkah all day.
-7:30pm- Hillel House. Erev Simhat Torah Services and Party. This should
be tons of fun. It's a huge 5-college event with lots of singing and dancing
and joyousness and shmoozing with folks from the other campuses. Daniela will
be reading Torah for us, someone from Hampshire will be leading a part of the
service, and we'll all get the chance to lead a hakafa and celebrate this
awesome holiday all together. Ends with kiddush and shmoozing.
FRIDAY the 8th--
-Simhat Torah day.
-Stop by and help clean up the sukkah between classes.
-6pm- Shabbat Dinner in the spirtual life center. ***We still need someone
to organize this one.***
We would appreciate help organizing and cooking any or all of these events. If
you have some free time and enthusiasm please call me x4838 or email
rls01 at hampshire.edu to volunteer. I'm sure I'll find something for you to do.
b'shalom,
RL
