Hey Guys,

The Five-College rabbis worked really hard and just got a grant for an awesome
program. There's not a lot of time for you to go pick up a flier so I typed it
out for you.

The Tzedek Leadership Corps will foster the values of tzedek (righteousness)
and tikkun olam (repairing the world) at the Five Colleges. TLC will offer 15
studetns an intensive yearlong program of leadership training, reflection, and
hands-on projects in community service and social justice. The goal of the
program is to foster development of Jewish activists and leaders and to
energize related programming projects in each campus' Jewish community.

Jewish students (of all backgrounds) concerned with helping others are
encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted based on interest and
demonstration of leadership potential. Underclass students will be given
preference. Applicatoins are due Sept. 27th with the first meeting occurring in
mid October. Participants will attend a community service training program
twice a month. Sessions will include an orientation, a retreat with nation
Jewish leadrs, and gathering for text study, relection, and discussion. The
griup wil attend Hillel's Spitzer Public Polidy Forum (usually help Sun.-Tues.
of President's Weekend in February) at no cost. The participants from each
campus are responsible to organize one service project per semester through
their Hillel/JSU (and other college departments when appropriate). Students
who complete all aspects of the program (with regular attendance and
particiapation) will recieve a $100 stipend to continue their advocacy adn
leadership growth through Jewish conferences, books, or events. TLC
participants will be esposed to tzedek opportunities in the Jewish community
and encouraged to attend Birthright Israel and/or Alternative Spring Break
Projects through Jewish or campus organizations.

The official applications can be picked up in the Office for Spiritual Life (in
the Merrill Master House, connected to Student Affairs). They are due this
Monday September 27th. If you are interested please email Rabbi Lisa
(lfkeshet at mtholyoke.edu) for more information.

Here's what to include in the application (email it to Rabbi Lisa):

Last name, First name, Middle name.
College
email address, phone number, campus box, year (e.g. F2004, 1st year)

Briefly list the following:
-previous community service/advocacy experience
-leadership experience
Please answer the following questions to help us pick the participants:
-Why do you want to participate in this program?
-How does service and advocacy relate to your Jewish identity?
-Describe one presonal skill or quality that makes you an effective leader.

Applications should be typed and not exceed 2 pages.

I really hope some of you guys can do this. It's an amazing opportunity and I'd
love to see Jewish Hampshire students excited about making the world a better
place.

Shabbat Shalom and Shana Tova,

RL
