Shiksa: The Gentile Woman in the Jewish World

	Christine Benvenuto--Freelance Writer, Amherst,
MA
Among the Jewish people, the gentile woman has
long been a magnet for intense feelings, from
male yearning to familial anxiety to communal
hatred. Her almost mythic status has its roots in
the dawn of Jewish history and repercussions that
extend beyond our own time to shape the Jewish
future. Considering the stories of contemporary
women and the insights of rabbis, Jewish
feminists and others in a historical, religious
and sociological context, Benvenuto will dissect
the fantasies that have clung to gentile women
throughout time, their impact on real people, and
the ways in which their sometimes contradictory
messages play off each other and ignite in
contemporary American life.

100 Israeli Rabbis which advocates for the human
rights of both Jews and Palestinians. RHR's
activities have included legal appeals,
humanitarian aid, and demonstrations. While he is
a strong Zionist deeply committed to Israel's
security, Rabbi Ascherman has often opposed
Israeli policies. He has been arrested several
times in recent months for standing in front of
bulldozers sent to demolish Plaestian homes. Come
