killings and misconduct emblazon newspapers' front pages and
social media, and a flurry of reports and proposed reforms
suggest that outrage will converge in action for change,
this lecture contextualizes the current crisis. Is so-called
community policing the solution to police violence? This
lecture explores continuities and changes in modern police
practice, by historicizing a Los Angeles case study and
theorizing the form and substance of institutional change.
