>> CREATING VALUE FOR STUDENTS

This fall non-resident students at UC Law noticed a significant change in their tuition bill. The annual rate dropped from $41,044 the year before to $29,010. This allows for non-residents to currently pay five thousand dollars more than in-state students (compared with the $17,000 annual difference that existed between the two rates before). In addition, approximately 90% of all incoming students (regardless of their state residency) were awarded renewable scholarships from the law school in both the 2013 and 2014 entering classes. Read more at www.law.uc.edu/financialaid

The Office of Admissions will host its annual Fall Open House for prospective students on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:30 pm. This event is the perfect opportunity for anyone to learn more about the benefits of earning a JD degree from the University of Cincinnati. The program will include tours of the law school, time to interact with faculty and students, and sessions led by experts on admissions, financial aid, and career services.

>> THIRD-YEARS HONE LEGAL SKILLS THROUGH COUNSELING ENTREPRENEURS

This summer, four third-year College of Law students, working closely with local entrepreneurs in a range of industries, put their growing legal skills and acumen to the test. Under a new collaboration between the College's Entrepreneurship and Development Clinic, the Hamilton County Business Center, and the First Batch Business Accelerator, students got "live client" experience tackling real, tangible legal issues for the entrepreneurs. Their work included selection and formation of business entities, preparation of agreements among business owners, and preparation of agreements with vendors, customers, and consultants. They also provided advice on intellectual property issues and business-specific regulatory issues. Read more at www.law.uc.edu/news/law-fellows

>> THE BENEFITS OF APPLYING EARLY

Applications for Fall 2015 admission are being accepted now through March 15, 2014. Though this spans several months, many applicants wait until right before the deadline to apply. Since applications are reviewed by our admissions committee on a rolling basis, waiting to apply can mean your application being part of a very large group at the end. This can make it harder for an application to stand out given the committee has already reviewed so many other candidates. Applying earlier in the process also means applicants can learn of their admission decision sooner, thus giving themselves more time afterwards to make a final decision on which law school they will attend. Many admitted applicants in the past have also benefited from having more time then to make a visit (or second visit) or to speak with faculty and/or students before paying an admission seat deposit.

Aftab Pureval '08, a proud alum of the College of Law, has maintained a deep interest in social justice - not only here but in whatever city he has worked. Originally from Beavercreek, Ohio, he attended The Ohio State University, where he majored in political science and was the president of the student body his senior year. Having always made service a priority in his life, Pureval's experiences as the student body president furthered his passion for social justice. After graduating, he moved down the I-71 corridor to join the College of Law. Read more at www.law.uc.edu/news/aftab-pureval
