<br><br>
Please join us Wednesday, April 23, 4:15-6 p.m., in Franklin Patterson Hall for
a panel discussion: "Secrecy and Surveillance in the Global War on
Terror." Guest speakers will be Marcy Wheeler and Melissa Hoffer.<br></span>
<span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br>
Wheeler is an independent journalist reporting on national security and
civil liberties. She writes as emptywheel at her eponymous blog,
consults with FirstLook Media, and publishes at outlets such as the
Guardian, Salon, and the Progressive. She is the author of Anatomy of
Deceit, a primer on the CIA-leak investigation, and live-blogged the
Scooter Libby trial. Wheeler has a BA from Amherst College and a PhD
from the University of Michigan, where she researched the feuilleton, a
short conversational newspaper form that has proved important in times
of heightened censorship.<br></span>

Hoffer is a visiting assistant professor of environmental law and human
