            opened the door for Hampshire students to be considered for
            a full scholarship to Vermont Law School, a terrific
            opportunity! VLS is consistently ranked as having the
            country's top environmental law program.  Deadline to  apply
            at Hampshire has been extended to 1/23/2014!</div>

          Each year, Hampshire can recommend 1 student for one of the
          following opportunities:<br>
          <ul>
            <li> <strong>3-year Full Scholarship</strong> for Juris
              Doctor (JD) program <em>or</em> Joint JD/Masters. The
              Masters can be in Environmental Law & Policy (MELP) or
              Energy Regulation & Law (MERL)</li>
            <li> <strong>1-year Full Scholarship</strong> for Masters
              of Environmental Law and Policy (MELP) program  or the
              Masters of Energy Regulation and Law (MERL) program</li>
          </ul>
           <br>
          <strong>Eligibility:</strong><br>
           <br>
          This scholarship is available for a Hampshire student or
          recent alum (up to 5 years out, graduated 2009 or after) with
          a demonstrated commitment to environmental change and a desire
          to pursue a degree from VLS.<br>
           <br>
          <strong>Options:</strong><br>
           <br>
          <strong>A.  Scholarship for 3-Year JD or Joint JD/ Masters. 
            Masters can be either: Environmental Law and Policy (MELP)
            or Energy Regulation and Law (MELP):</strong><br>
           
          <ul>
            <li> 3-year full-tuition scholarship to VLS for either
              program, starting in 2014</li>
            <li> Inclusion in the Dean's Scholar program</li>
            <li> Inclusion in the international program experience with
              waived administrative fees</li>
          </ul>

          <strong><em>Candidate Requirements:</em></strong>
          <ul>
            <li> Demonstrated commitment to environmental issues and
              service through campus and/or community activities</li>
            <li> Excellent writing and critical thinking abilities</li>
            <li> LSAT score of 160 or better</li>
            <li> Commitment to attend VLS in Fall 2014, if awarded the
              Hampshire/VLS Scholarship; no deferrals are possible.</li>
          </ul>

          <strong>B. 1-Year Masters: MELP or MERL Program Scholarship:</strong><br>
           
          <ul>
            <li> One year (2014-2015) full-tuition scholarship for MELP
              or MERL-only degree program at Vermont Law School</li>

          You will see that our application closely follows the VLS
          application.  We have asked one additional essay question, but
          all other written documents are the same as what is needed by

          <strong>3 Essays, plus one optional:</strong><br>
          Please respond to each of the essay topics separately.
           Applicants are encouraged to be as forthright and open as
          possible, and should feel free to discuss unusual
          circumstances or situations of adversity that may have
          influenced their current values. Be aware that both the
          quality of your writing and the thoughtfulness of your answers
          will be evaluated.<br>
          <strong>1. </strong>Describe the goals that are motivating
          you to pursue (a law degree, or a master?s degree in
          environmental law and policy). How do you think the skills and
          experience you will gain at Vermont Law School will help you
          achieve those goals?<br>
          <strong>2. </strong>How have you tried to effect change in
          relation to an issue of personal, local, or national
          significance?<br>
          <strong>3. </strong>Optional Question: Give a realistic
          appraisal of your academic work since graduation from high
          school. Please note any inconsistencies in your record and the
          reasons for them.<br>
          <strong>4. </strong>Hampshire only question:  Why does it
          make sense to attend this program in 2014, in terms of your
          career and/or life plans?<br>

          <strong>Test Scores:  </strong>LSAT score (if applying for JD

            application to VLS until after you hear if you are being
            recommended for the VLS Scholarship.  The Committee wants to

            will have valuable feedback for you to consider before
            submitting.  DO NOT submit your application before you hear
            from the Hampshire Committee.  We expect to make decisions
            by January at latest.<br>

            The deadline for the Hampshire nominee to submit their
            application to the program of their choice at VLS is
