I've spent most of my legal career at Cardozo, as a student, a faculty 
member, vice dean and now as the dean. But I have never been more 
excited about the future of our school than I am today. Cardozo is 
moving forward with excellence, building on its past in innovative ways, 
and bringing new ideas for legal education to life. The energy and 
engagement of our students, alumni and faculty are truly impressive. I 
hope you will join us during this milestone year to celebrate our 
achievements as a community. Our community is actively engaged and ready

*Focus on Growth & Development - Employment Outcomes*
Over the past 12 months we have worked hard to build on our areas of 
strength and to identify areas on which to focus continued development.
I am perhaps most proud of the work we have done to improve employment 
outcomes for all Cardozo students. We have restructured the office of 
career services, have improved outreach to and communication with 
students, and have become a resource for employers. This past year, we 
saw an almost 10 percent increase in the number of students in 
long-term, full-time legal jobs! We have more to do, but I am confident 
that under the leadership of Neil Sirota

our associate dean for career services, we will get there.
*Improvements to Student Life*
To continue to attract the finest students, we have worked to upgrade 
student life at the law school through new housing options. In close 
collaboration with Yeshiva University, we have developed a master 
housing plan for the future that will increase and upgrade student 
housing opportunities for all of our students. Phase 1 is complete: We 
have opened a newly renovated housing facility - which we call the 
Benjamin - on 29th Street and Lexington Avenue. Phase 2 is beginning: We 
have sold the Alabama - our residence on 11th Street - to Collegium, a 
firm co-owned by Cardozo graduate Todd Rosenberg. Collegium specializes 
in student housing; they will perform a top-to-bottom renovation of the 
Alabama, and will offer priority access to Cardozo law students starting 
in the fall of 2017. These steps will make the law school more 
attractive to students from around the country who want to live and 
study in the heart of Manhattan.
*Major Gifts*
Over the past six months we have received two major gifts that will make 
a significant impact on the law school:

  * $1 million from Arlene and Benedict Morelli. Benedict Morelli is the
    founder and partner of Morelli Law Firm and former president of the
    New York State Trial Lawyers Association. The gift will be used in
    two ways:
      o
        To establish and expand the Morelli Family Scholarship fund
      o
        To establish and expand the Benedict Morelli Trial Team. The
        Morellis' support will allow us to expand the number of students
        who can participate on the trial team, and will increase the
        number of competitions in which students can participate.
  * $1 million from Benjamin Ferencz, the legendary lawyer who was one
    of the chief Nuremberg prosecutors against Nazi war criminals. His
    generous gift will support Cardozo's Human Rights and Atrocity
    Prevention Clinic, which will be renamed the Benjamin B. Ferencz
    Human Rights and Atrocity Prevention Clinic.

I am excited looking forward towards Cardozo's future. As the fall 
semester rapidly comes to a close, I wish you a wonderful holiday season 
and a happy and healthy new year.
