As another fruitful semester at William & Mary Law School nears end, we 
write to update you on the news that continues to make life exciting in 
Williamsburg.

Highlights include an addition to the soon-to-open Hixon Center for 
Experiential Learning, a Supreme Court Preview composed of renowned 
experts, and major victories for both our Trial Team and Appellate & 
Supreme Court Clinic. We take great pride in the successes of our 
students and faculty, and look forward to the many promises of the year 
ahead.

*Supreme Court Preview Joins Scholars, Advocates, and Journalists for 
Lively Discussion*

William & Mary Law School’s29th annual Supreme Court Preview hosted 
renowned Court experts and advocates from across the nation to discuss 
the Court, its current term, and many other issues. Guest panelists 
included Jeff Fisher, Paul Clement, and Linda Greenhouse. Read more

*Alumni Gift Adds to Hixon Center for Experiential Learning and Leadership *

A generous donation of $1 million from Pamela Jordan Penny, ’77, and 
James D. Penny, J.D. ’83, will fund the creation of a modern atrium 
space called Penny Commons in the new Hixon Center for Experiential 
Learning and Leadership. The Center, slated to open in Spring 2017, adds 
12,000 square feet of classroom, clinical, and courtroom space to the 
Law School, and Penny Commons will serve as a unique and practical 
meeting point among them. Read more

*Leadership Forum Taps Top Talent in Law & Business *

The 2016 McGlothlin Leadership Forum hosted top leaders in business and 
law, among them a law firm partner and former federal prosecutor, for a 
series of seminar-style classes and other events with students. Read

*Sixteenth Annual Thanksgiving Basket Competition Aids Local Community*

Students embraced the opportunity to help local families enjoy a Happier 
Thanksgiving in the 16th annual Thanksgiving Basket Competition, 
sponsored by the Black Law Students Association. Read more

*Appellate & Supreme Court Clinic Secures Victory for Client in the D.C. 
Circuit*

ipherThe United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit decided 
/Corrigan v. District of Columbia /in favor of a client of the Appellate 
Clinic. Then-3Ls Elizabeth Rademacher, Melanie Lazor, and Jacob Derr 
briefed and argued successfully that police officers conducted an 
unconstitutional search of their client’s home. Read more

*National Trial Team Enjoys Strong Start to Competitive Year*

Our National Trial Team took first place

the only national civil rights trial competition in the country, which 
St. John’s University School of Law hosted in New York City. The Team 
also won top honors

for the fourth year in a row, at the regional labor and employment law 
competition, securing a spot in the national finals to be held in New 
Orleans.

*Virginia Supreme Court Justice Delivers Talk on Law-Life Balance*

In her recent talk at the school, Justice Elizabeth A. McClanahan of the 
Supreme Court of Virginia gave inspiring advice about overcoming 
obstacles like stress in law school and the legal profession. Read more
