Public Interest Clearinghouse

Founded in 1979, the Public Interest Clearinghouse (PIC) is California’s
catalyst for justice. PIC advances access to justice for low-income
Californians by mobilizing the resources of the legal community and promoting
the delivery of effective legal services throughout the state. PIC’s programs
focus on three core service areas:
(1) Mentoring public interest law students and developing a pro bono ethic.
(2) Strengthening legal services programs by providing technical assistance and
advice, taking a leadership role in statewide coordination and strategic
planning for the legal services community, and by delivering high-quality
trainings.
(3) Promoting the innovative use of technology to support legal services
delivery systems through the development of its websites, LawHelpCA.org and
ProBono.net/CA.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: This is an entry level position with opportunities
to develop project management skills. The position will provide an excellent
opportunity to interact with the legal aid community and to support statewide
efforts to increase access to justice through two key roles:

1. Ensuring the smooth operation of PIC through office management (including:
office supplies and equipment, telephone reception, administrative support,
document management and design).

2. Participating as a key member of the team on several of PIC’s projects,
including:

- Coordination of trainings and conferences, including primary responsibility
for PI/PS Day, the largest West Coast public interest career fairs for law
students
- Creation of e-newsletters and publications
- Fundraising support
- Maintenance of online resources
- Initiating research projects on legal services

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a B.A. or B.S., the ability to
manage several projects at once, excellent organizational skills, strong
communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to write and edit well and
produce quality publications, and strong attention to detail. Familiarity with
Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet applications is required. Previous
experience with website design/maintenance (particularly Dreamweaver),
designing and editing newsletters, brochures and promotional materials (in
Photoshop) are preferred but not required. Previous experience in the nonprofit
sector, particularly on legal services or justice issues, is a plus.

COMPENSATION: Full-time (35 hour work week) at $28,000 - $31,000, DOE, plus
great benefits.

How to Apply:
APPLICATION: Send: (1) a cover letter explaining your interest in and
qualifications for the position as well as describing relevant work and
volunteer background, (2) your resume, (3) three references and (4) a writing
sample of no more than 3 pages via email to careers at pic.org. Please include
"Program Assistant position" in the email subject header. The position is
located in San Francisco and start date is January 7, 2008.

THE CLEARINGHOUSE VALUES DIVERSITY AND IS AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER. ALL
INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.
