To recap and update for those who couldn't make it: There'll be a student meeting on Monday the 1st at 7p in the Merrill Living Room to discuss and organize a student panel within the next week. On February 16th we'll have a panel of guest speakers. On the 18th there will be a staff/faculty silent auction and then at 8p there will be the next band fundraiser in the Red Barn. This is just the beginning! Upcoming fundraising possibilities are a rave, an alumni band, spring jam (as well as the coffeehouse and craft fair we discussed the week before). Ideas being looked into are where the boxes and donations of kits idea is at, the intricacies of funding, 40th reunion possibilities, an intranet calendar for Haiti events which will be linked to Hampshire's web page, and the possibilities of exchange(s). We'll meet again Thursday Feb 4th at 12n in the airport lounge for updates and further planning. (And we will streamline to make sure folks can get to class in time.) Thank you for all your work and dedication and passion! I am leaving them sitting out right by the door of Greenwich Mod 9 (thats where I live). Come by anytime to get them, all you have to do is open the window left of the door from the outside and you can reach right in (this is only necessary if no one is home, which is unlikely). * Putting a flyer under every one of the doors in the dorms is a bit excessive, and will also make for an unmanageable meeting. Just focus on high traffic areas, the library, FPH, and saga are the most important. Solidarity, Nate -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... On the 16th, there will be a screening of The Agronomist at 7p in one of the Lecture Halls. On the 18th there will be the bands' fundraiser at 8p in the Red Barn. We are looking at late Feb/early march for the guest speaker(s) and student panel. One possibility for the speaker is bringing the director of the movie recently screened at Amherst here to speak, along with showing the movie. Folks are checking in with her regarding possible dates and expenses. The possibility of co-sponsoring with Amherst and use of their guest house was raised. The interns are making decisions this week about whether the all houses event will be focused on Haiti. The rave will be early March depending on dates the dj and dining commons are available. A possible group for that fundraiser to go to is The Haiti Project, an organization that students are involved with that works on a small island just off Haiti particularly around providing food not only for those on the island but also the many folks who have been moving there after the earthquake. We will meet again next Thursday Feb. 11th 12n in the Airport Lounge. Additionally, there is now a Haiti Action calendar on the intranet. So if you hear of off campus events, send them to the list serv and we'll put them up on the intranet calendar as well. There is a local community group with some significant funding sources and music sources that would like to work with us for an event in the RCC. We can talk more about that this coming Thursday. I think that's it...oh wait, two more things. We had talked about a craft table. We will have a table at the 40th anniversary alumni reunion, so if folks know of crafts that people would want to donate to sell then, send word/crafts. On Monday at 12n in the Merrill Living Room there will be a meeting to talk about the Alternative Spring Break trip to New Orleans. If you are interested please come or email me, as there is still much to be done in the wake of Katrina even though it's years later. Next Spring Break we're planning to go to Haiti, and you can let me know now if you are interested in that as well. Don't forget, food for thought tonight! Be well! Oh, okay, so they weren't actually that exciting as far as snacks go but still. On to more important things: Next week! Tuesday the 16th the film The Agronomist will be showing at 7p in the ELH. Lyla has made a fact sheet and a poster is on its way to duplications. Posters will be put up here and at Smith. There will be a facebook group set up so keep your facebook eyes open. Most importantly, SPREAD THE WORD! That is the best form of advertising. And come yourself as well. On Thursday the 18th the Faculty/Staff Silent Auction will be at 12n so Melissa, Emily, and myself will not be at the meeting, but there will still be a meeting. So be sure and come Thurs. 12n to the Airport Lounge. That night at 8p there will be a Haiti Relief Concert in the Red Barn. Pam is looking for a student to do the poster. Nate said he'd ask his art student friend. Any other volunteers? She does have some photos of the Grupo Folklorico Palo Santo that could be used. **If you are interested, email Pam at ptinto at hampshire.edu** Later Events: The Rave has been moved to the 5th because of the Holyoke Drag Ball. So March 5th Friday at 10p in Saga. It will raise money for The Haiti Project which Jessie is involved with. **If you would be willing to show up at 9p to help set up, that would be wonderful.** On Saturday March 6th in the Main Dance Studio at 7p there will be a performance for Haiti Relief: Urban Word Presents Sunni Patterson. On Thursday March 25th, there will be a coffeehouse with music and coffee on the first floor of the Tavern and crafts to buy (proceeds for Haiti of course) on the second floor. **If you have crafts that you make or know anyone who makes jewelry or anything else, please bring them to either me at the Spiritual Life Office on the 2nd floor of Merrill Student Life or to Phoebe.** The interns have decided to have their all house event be a Haiti Benefit. Yay! Still to be decided what the event itself will be. There is a local community member who wants to bring a huge number of artists from Porterhouse records, a NY Haitian Ra Ra group, and others to have a big event in the RCC with some of the smaller artists in smaller venues on campus. We're going to get in touch with her for more details and explore what it would mean cost and detail wise for us here. The producer and director of the film we had talked about screening (whose name I don't seem to have written down! Anyone?) is interested in coming; we have not heard about cost. About 12 people showed up. I passed around Lyla's fact sheet and a donation box. We only raised a few dollars but since the focus of the evening was intended to be more educational than relief-based I would say it was a success. I am still waiting for my copy of Poto Mitan to arrive from the 5-college database. I'll let you know when that happens. best, Sasha Quoting lmnSA at hampshire.edu: > Greetings! > > Great news!
