<b>Dinner w/ guests from Arava Institute for Environmental Studies</b><br>
Tuesday Sept 23 @ 6:30 pm<br>

Come for
dinner with Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian guests from the Arava
Institute for Environmental Studies. Rabbi Michael Cohen, Director of
Special Projects for the Arava
Institute, and students who are studying there will share their
experiences earning about the environment and learning about each
other. Information will also be available for those who might like to
study at the Institute as well (which Hampshire students can do as
Field Study). Dinner from Fresh Side will be served. This program is
organized & sponsored by Rabbi Steven Nathan from Hampshire's
Spiritual Life Program.<br>

GEO Study Abroad Info Table: Living Routes<br>

SAGA/Dining Commons<br>
</b>Bring your education to life by studying in Ecovillages around the
world. Ecovillages are ecological communities that provide ideal
campuses for students to learn about real-world issues including
sustainable development, green building, organic agriculture and
women's empowerment. Learn to live in harmony with local environments
as you investigate personal and community based solutions to real world
issues with one of the most innovative environmental study abroad
programs. Students participate in individualized learning plans for
their
program, which may include service learning projects or internships.
Depending on the specific program, Living Routes offers opportunities
for either fall or spring semester, along with summer and January term.

<b>Hampshire Exchange Program in France w/ the Institut d'Etudes
Politiques</b><br>

</b>This is an information session for anyone interested in studying at
the
Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) or at one of the
satellite
campuses, which Hampshire students can do as a Hampshire Exchange
Program. Students can take courses in English, French, or both in
fields like international studies, social and political sciences,
economics, etc. Students from Sciences Po will be there to answer
questions
about life in Paris and application information will be available.<br>

<b>Five College Tibetan Studies in India Program for January Term 2009<br>
Thursday, Sept 25 @ noon<br>
Dakin Living Room</b><br>
As part of an ongoing academic exchange program with the Tibetan
universities in exile in India, each year the Five Colleges send up to
fifteen students to spend January term studying Buddhist philosophy,
Tibetan history and culture, and Tibetan textual analysis in an
intensive program taught by the faculty of the Central Institute of
Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) in Sarnath, India. The Institute is a
research and teaching university established and jointly administered
by the Tibetan Government in Exile and the Ministry of Education of
India. This year, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be
in residence at CIHTS for 12 days, and will give public teachings on
Santideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life. Hampshire students
interested should attend this information session or contact the
program coordinator at the link below. Applications are due Oct 17 and
should be turned in to the coordinator at Smith College. Hampshire
students may also apply for financial aid for this program by October
17, and should turn the form into the Global Education Office.<br>

School for Field Studies: Opportunities in Kenya (and other places!)</b><br>
Participate in the Amboseli elephant research project: learn elephant
ecology and wildlife management techniques through recording elephant
sightings, collecting census data, understanding ecological keystone
and tourism flagship roles and examining human/elephant conflicts.
OR... Help improve the livelihoods of local Massai communities through
research and implementation of an integrated water resource management
approach. OR...Learn Swahili and socio-cultural aspects of East African
tribes; course emphasizes intense immersion and direct contact and
interaction with the native communities - primarily the Maasai. SFS
financial aid and travel grants are available, but you must apply early

<b>Study & Intern in Budapest, Hungary<br>
</b>Located in Budapest, Hungary, Central European University (CEU), is
a graduate institution that specializes in the humanities and social
sciences. CEU was founded by famous philanthropist, George Soros, with
a mission to promote and design a new method of education in the
post-Soviet world. In conjunction with Bard College, the Bard-CEU
Study and Intern Abroad program provides exceptional North American
undergraduates the opportunity to study abroad at CEU for a semester
or full academic year and take courses in English side by side with
masters and PhD students attending CEU. Our study abroad students have
the opportunity to take courses in any of CEU's various
disciplines/departments which now include International Relations and
European Studies, Political Science, History, Economics, Business,
Mathematics, Religious Studies, Jewish Studies, Medieval Studies,
Environmental Science and Policy, Gender Studies, Public Policy,
Nationalism Studies, Philosophy, Sociology and Social Anthropology,
and Legal Studies in the area of Human Rights. All credits transfer
back as undergraduate credits through Bard College. Students also have
the option to complete a part time professional internship with an
organization of their choice while study abroad at CEU during the
semester.<br>

<b>Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA)</b> <br>
The Freeman-ASIA Program aims to increase the number of U.S.
undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia by providing them
with the information and financial assistance they will need. Award
recipients are expected to share their experiences with their home
campuses to encourage study abroad in Asia and to spread greater
understanding of Asian peoples and cultures within their home
communities. Freeman Awards for Study in Asia application cycle for
spring 2009 is now
open for students applying to study abroad programs of 10/12 weeks or
more
with start date between December-April.)

<b>Boren Scholarships for 2009-10 Academic Year Study Abroad</b><br>
The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the
opening of the 2009-10 academic year competition for NSEP David L.
Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students. Boren Awards provide
unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to add important
international and language components to their educations.
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study
abroad. Boren Fellowships are also awarded to graduate-level research.<br>
