GEO Study Abroad Info Table: SIT Study Abroad<br>
Wednesday, Sept 10 @ lunchtime (11am-1pm)<br>
SAGA/Dining Commons<br>
</b>SIT (School of Int'l Training) Study Abroad offers field-based
learning in both semester and summer programs, in which students
integrate classroom study with field and research experience, creating
synergies that enrich both their time abroad and their future studies.
An academic director with experience in a relevant area of study and
extensive knowledge of the host country supervises in-country
coursework while facilitating student access to local resources,
facilities, and experts. Each small group of students also benefits
from the efforts of talented language instructors, homestay
coordinators, and other local staff. In addition to formally structured
coursework on our semester programs, students undertake a month-long
Independent Study Project on SIT Study Abroad semester programs.
Building on field study techniques acquired earlier in the semester,
and working together with a local advisor, students have the
opportunity to conduct research using primary sources on a topic that
they find particularly interesting.<br>

NGOabroad Journalism Internship
</b><br>
NGOabroad is currently recruiting writers & journalists for 2
separate volunteer positions in refugee camps in Africa.
Journalism is key to rebuilding democracy and healing the wounds of
civil wars. Many of the refugees can not read or write so gracefully
transposing your craft to the oral tradition is helpful.
Teach people to observe the world around them & report on their
community--
new developments and if something is amiss. This is powerful medicine
for people that were silenced. Applications are accepted on a rolling
basis. Duration of your stay is flexible.

<b>Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD): Internships and
Volunteering in Africa, Asia, & Latin America</b><br>
FSD is an international development organization that offers
internships and volunteer opportunities with over 200 community-based,
grassroots organizations throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia.
Each intern also participates in a three-step hands-on field training
program, including community integration training, development skill
building, and cultural immersion & reflection. Interns are then
placed with partner organizations matching their interests, skills, and
objectives, organizations that develop sustainable projects to address
the community's needs and activate community involvement. Interns live
with host families and work with local community leaders. Placements
can vary from 9 to 52 weeks in length.<br>

The Study Music in Europe website provides information to music
students interested in studying music in a conservatoire, music
academy, Musikhochschule or music university in Europe. This website
functions as a web portal, giving access to websites of institutions
for higher music education and training, and to information on national
higher (music) education systems and practical issues that need to be
taken into consideration by students wanting to study music in Europe. <br>

<b>Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes,
Summer 2009</b><br>
Critical Language Scholarships provide the opportunity to study a
critical need foreign language abroad, covering the costs of travel,
orientation, visa fees, room, board, language instruction,
program-sponsored travel within the countries, and program-sponsored
cultural enhancement activities. Languages include: Arabic,
Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi,
Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. Levels include beginning, intermediate,
and advanced, and programs are seven to ten weeks in length.
