ISA: International Studies Abroad is a study abroad provider with 13
destination countries that encompass 26 distinct and exciting cities.
ISA has been providing quality study abroad programs for U.S. college
students since 1987. From their website: "One of the first impressions
that we hope students will have of ISA is our service-oriented attitude
towards study abroad. We are here to help each student throughout the
entire study abroad process. From a student's initial contact with an
ISA representative, we hope that he or she will quickly realize how
important each individual is to us. We take each student's requests
very seriously, and we are able to be flexible in order to meet his or
her specific needs."<br>

Interested in studying in ecovillages & sustainable communities
abroad? Come talk to a representative from Living Routes, with programs
in Australia, Brazil, Peru, India, Israel, Mexico, Senegal, Scotland,
and the U.S.! Bring your education to life by studying in Ecovillages
around the world. Ecovillages are ecological communities that provide
ideal campuses for students to learn about real-world issues including
sustainable development, green building, organic agriculture and
women's empowerment. Learn to live in harmony with local environments
as you investigate personal and community based solutions to real world
issues with one of the most innovative environmental study abroad
programs. Students participate in individualized learning plans for
their program, which may include service learning projects or
internships. Depending on the specific program, Living Routes offers
opportunities for either fall or spring semester, along with summer and

<b>SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GOING ABROAD<br>
<br>
Contemplative Sustainable Design in San San Cristobal, New Mexico</b><br>
(July 29-August 17) Challenge your ideas about environmentalism and
conservation in a non-traditional setting. While residing at a small,
off-grid community, you will explore the theory behind sustainable
design and put those theories into practice as you build straw-bale and
straw-clay community structures. This three-week seminar, hosted at
the Lama Foundation in San Cristobal, New Mexico, will provide students
the opportunity to live in a community in the mountains of northern New
Mexico, participate in building sustainable structures, and explore the
more contemplative dimensions of environmentalism. Students will
examine the practical, political, technical, and economic facets of
sustainable design as they erect structures utilizing passive and
active solar energy. At the same time, students will reflect on their
personal relationship with environmental politics and the quality of
their commitment to sustainability. Through practices such as
meditation, yoga, journal writing and artistic expression, students
will examine their motivations, self-understandings and aesthetic
sensibilities as they relate to environmentalism. Students will also
enjoy their natural surroundings in the Carson National Forest, as well
as group experiences in sweat lodges, mountain hikes, and weekend trips
to other parts of New Mexico.<br>
Application Deadline: accepted on a rolling basis, apply now!<br>

<b>Iraqi Refugee Solidarity Initiative</b><br>
With this context in mind, Global Youth Connect, the Jordanian
Community Development Center in Sweileh, and the Jordan Red Crescent
have joined together to launch an Iraqi Refugee Solidarity Initiative.
Through this initiative, GYC, CDC and JRC will help build and support a
community of youth activists interested in working together to address
the Iraqi refugee crisis in Jordan. This joint initiative will bring
together 30 youth (ages 18-30) from Iraq, Jordan and the U.S. with the
goal of better understanding the root causes of the crisis, placing it
within a larger regional and global context, and identifying concrete
ways in which they can take steps towards addressing the situation.
The initiative will take place over a 6-month period, incorporating a
series of distinct yet interconnected elements, including: a peer
learning community in Jordan, community engagement and outreach, and an
evaluation and reflection retreat. Program runs from July to January.<br>
Application Deadline: March 21, 2008<br>
