Info Session for Kenchreai Summer Program: Archeology Dig in Greece
Monday, January 14 @ 4:30-5:30pm
This is an exciting and competitive opportunity for one Hampshire
student to participate in an active archaeological excavation in
southern Greece this summer. The Kenchreai Excavations involve an
international team of experts in archeology, anthropology, art history,
and geology as well as a junior staff of undergraduate students from
schools across the country. Student participants will acquire basic
field techniques while working with world experts in the exploration of
ancient churches, temples shops, houses, and tombs at one of Greece’s
most spectacular seaside archaeological sties. Need-based financial aid
from Hampshire for program costs is available. (Another info session

GEO'S TIP OF THE WEEK

Going Abroad Summer 2008
If you're interested in going abroad over the summer, January is the
time to look at your options, because some summer programs have
deadlines in January or February! Here are some ways to research your
options:

-- Stop by our office's resource library to look at brochures and
booklets we receive, whether it's an academic study or intensive
language program, internship placement, volunteer and service learning
opportunities, etc. We have a lot!

-- Search online. A tip: though Google may be awesome at some things,
it's not the best way to find opportunities to go abroad! A better
bet: IEEPassport.org, which has an advanced search option for narrowing
results to summer/short term programs.

-- Set up a one-on-one meeting with someone at GEO to get some help in
the process of searching for and applying to programs. (Yes, we're
open regular hours over Jan-Term!)

Does Hampshire provide financial aid for summer programs?
Hampshire only provides need-based financial aid to offset costs for
its own May/summer programs (which will soon be announced). Talk to
the Student Financial Services or the Global Education Office for help
finding additional scholarship & funding opportunities, including
outside scholarships, student loans, etc. If you're applying to an
outside program, talk with the program to find out if they offer or
know of scholarship opportunities. There are not a lot of outside
scholarships for short-term and summer programs, but many programs
offer a limited amount of scholarships or financial aid opportunities,
usually (but not always) limited to students who show financial need.
