GEO'S TIP OF THE WEEK

Want to go abroad summer 2008?
If you're interested in going abroad over the summer, now through
January is the time to look at your options, because some summer
programs have deadlines in January! Stop by our office's resource
library to look at brochures and booklets we receive from programs, or
set up a one-on-one meeting to find guidance in the process of
searching for and applying to programs. We'll be open until December
21, and we'll be here throughout Jan-Term, too. When looking online
for summer programs, IIEpassport.org is a good place to search, as they
have an advanced search option for summer/short term programs. Also
keep your eye out for a digest in January highlighting a few summer
programs that we've heard about!
Teach in Spain (or Chile, China, & Thailand) with CIEE
In cooperation with the Junta de Andalucía, CIEE has developed a
Language and Culture Assistant Program in public bilingual schools in
the Autonomous Region of Andalusia. The program was initiated to make
education in Spain both multilingual and multicultural, thus helping to
develop cultural understanding between the citizens of Spain and the
United States. Assistants on Teach in Spain cooperate with local
teachers primarily in English classes but also actively help with
content classes taught in English such as social studies, physical
education, and music. Teach in Spain is a supported program where
participants receive a Seville based orientation including
cross-cultural training introduction, classes on TEFL theory and
teaching methodology, sightseeing trips, accommodations and most meals.
Insurance, 24/7 in-country emergency support services, pre-departure
advice, teaching tools, and visa advice are also provided by CIEE. For
teaching in Spain, the deadline is March 15. (Deadlines vary for other
countries.) This is a good opportunity either for taking a
semester/year off or for living and working abroad after graduation.
