<b>Global Awareness through Artistic Expression</b><br>
If you've lived or studied abroad, or if your art has been influenced
by cultures and people from around the world, we invite you to share
your experiences in a creative/artistic way! Next week, GEO will be
having a gallery exhibition and open mic focused on the themes of
global awareness and celebration of other cultures. If you have
poetry, stories to tell, blog or journal excerpts/entries to read or
display, music to perform (or pre-recorded music to introduce), dance
to performc, or photography or other artwork to display, we'd love you
to participate! We invite any form of creative/artistic expression
that can be shared through an open mic or that is flat enough to be
displayed in the Tavern's gallery!<br>

Please pass this along to any other creative students you know who may
be interested, too!<br>

let us know about special equipment requests for the open mic (we will
have a basic mic & amp set up!)<br>

As part of Hampshire's Environmental Studies and Sustainability Program
(ESSP)'s series of speakers, Gregg Orifici will speak about Living
Routes a program of Ecovillages, ecological communities that provide
opportunities for students to learn about sustainable development, and
learn to live in harmony with local environments, investigating
personal and community based solutions to real world issues. If you're
interested in sustainability or in participating in the Living Routes
program while on field study, come to this event!<br>

<b>OPPORTUNITIES FOR GOING ABROAD</b><br>

<b>January 2008 in Costa Rica for National Park Conservation Project</b><br>
In January 2008, Amigos de las Américas will be returning to Costa Rica
for 3½ weeks for our National Park Conservation project. AMIGOS builds
partnerships to empower young leaders, advance community development
and strengthen multicultural understanding in the Americas. From Jan.
3-27, AMIGOS Volunteers will spend roughly a week in three of Costa
Rica's most popular national parks, performing service work inside the
parks (light construction, trail maintenance, laying bricks, clearing
paths, etc.), developing leadership, interpersonal and cross cultural
skills, and learning from park rangers about local flora and fauna in
each park. One advantage to this program is how U.S. volunteers work
alongside local Costa Rican youth on every aspect of achieving the
projects. Application deadline is November 16!<br>

<b>Danish Institute for Study abroad (DIS) has New Summer Programs!</b><br>
If you're interested in studying in Scandinavia, this program offers a
number of three-week courses, two weeks in Copenhagen and one week on a
study tour in Denmark, Scandinavia, or Europe. Topics include
sustainability in Scandinavia, modern health care, business economics,
education (special needs in a multicultural context), HIV/AIDS in
Europe, modern art, terrorism and European security, architecture and
interior design, and more! There is also a month and a half summer
course about jewelry design in Scandinavia. DIS also offers many
programs during the academic year.<br>

Semester in Morocco: Area Studies & Arabic Language Courses</b><br>
AMIDEAST (America-Mideast Education and Training Services, Inc), a
non-profit with 56 years of on-the-ground experience in the Middle East
and North Africa, now sponsors its own study abroad program for US<br>
undergraduates in collaboration with Mohammed V University in Rabat,
Morocco. The program features Arabic language courses at various
levels (both Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan Colloquial Arabic) and
area studies courses taught in English by US and/or European trained
faculty from Mohammed V University. Applications are still being
accepted (on a rolling basis) for the Spring 2008 semester and will be
accepted beginning in January for Fall 2008.<br>
