Come to the Five College Africa Day on <b>Friday, November 2</b>, an
afternoon and evening of events with music, dance, food, and
Africa-focused research and academic work being done by Five College
students, faculty, and alumni. If you've been to Africa, want to go to
Africa, if you're doing Africa-related academic work, or if you have
any interest in Africa-related cultures and research topics, please
attend!<br>

All Africa Day events will be held in the <b>Blanchard Campus Center
at Mt Holyoke College</b>; participants and speakers include
representation from all of the Five Colleges. <br>
<br>
<b>The day's events include:</b><br>
>> 2:15 - West African Drumming and Dance Performance. Five
College West African Music Ensemble, accompanied by dancer Elikem
Nyamuame, performing music from Ghana, Togo, and Benin.<br>
>> 3:00 - Five College African Studies Reception. Join faculty,
African Scholars Program fellows, students an alums from the Five
Colleges for a reception with African snacks. Browse an exhibit of
research, study abroad, internships, and activism that links the Five
Colleges to Africa.<br>
>> 3:30 - Meaningful and principled connections with Africa:
Health, education and economic issues. Two panels with presentations
and lively discussion by five college students, faculty and alums
including Tracey Hebert (MHC’92). Tracey Hebert (MHC’92) will discuss
her post-conflict work in Liberia for the U.S. Agency for International
Development, a career inspired by her undergraduate study abroad in
Senegal.<br>
>> 4:30 - Swahili skit/Mchezo Mswahili Performance in Swahili by
Five College Language Students.<br>
>> 5:00 to 7:00 - Dinner specials - The Blanchard Campus Center
is pleased to feature reasonably-priced African-themed dinner specials,
look for the signs.<br>
>> 8:00-10:00 - Hip-Hop Band Gokh-Bi System (a.k.a GBS) will lead
an evening of activities, music and dance. Sponsored by the Mount
Holyoke African and Caribbean Student Association (MHACASA) and the
Mount Holyoke Office of Student Programs.<br>

In addition to these events, there will be a <b>mini study
abroad/international fair</b> for those interested in doing academic
and/or service work in Africa. There will also be an <b>exhibit of
research, study abroad, internships, and activism</b> that links the
Five Colleges to Africa on display from Wednesday evening through
Sunday afternoon. Both of these will also take place in the Blanchard
Campus Center.<br>
