*>>Symposium on memory studies and conflict studies in Rwanda<<*
Scholars and practitioners in the fields of memory, reconciliation,
conflict transformation, peace and conflict studies, and human rights
are convening a symposium, Conflict, Memory, and Reconciliation:
Bridging past, present, and future, in Kigali, Rwanda, January 10-13, 2012.
The conference aims to highlight contributions to the emergent field of
memory studies and the link between the study of conflict and that of
memory studies. It will provide a platform for comparative analysis and
learning of current research and teaching experiences from colleagues
engaged at sites of genocide and other post-conflict environments.
Participants will generate and share knowledge on the pedagogy of
teaching in post-war environments. Other planned highlights of the
symposium include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and a
powerful performance of genocide testimony, through music and
traditional dance, by Rwanda's foremost youth performing arts company,
Mashirika.
The discounted rate for students is 150 dollars; in addition, special
rates are available for participants at nearby hotels. For more
