UPCOMING GEO EVENTS

Jan-term West of Ireland Info Session | Monday, Oct.4th, 4-5pm | FPH 107

In this unique course abroad, participants will explore the ecology, geology and
long history of the west of Ireland, and, from a multidisciplinary perspective,
consider how the physical landscape has shaped people’s working lives, beliefs,
language, and general culture. Faculty director, Mark Feinstein, will share
information about course content, requirements and application procedures. All
applications are due to the Global Education Office by Fri 10/15.


Study Abroad Info Session | Every Thursday 4PM | Merrill Living Room
Weekly GEO Info Sessions provide an overview of study abroad options and how to
begin planning your study abroad experience.

Gilman International Scholarship Application Deadline--Oct 5, 2010
The Gilman International Scholarship program is pleased to announce the opening
of the Spring 2011 online application for U.S. undergraduate students
participating in Spring 2011 study abroad programs. For more information,

The 2011 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program Application
Deadline--Nov.15, 2010
The United States Department of State is pleased to announce the scholarship
competition for the 2011 Critical Language Scholarship program or oversees
intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical need foreign
languages. Interested applicant should review the full eligibility and
application on the CLS program website at

ISEP is accepting applications for student scholarships funded through The New
York Community Trust-Annette Kade Fund. For more information on the ISEP
program go to http://www.isep.org. If you are interested in applying to ISEP,
please contact GEO to make an appointment, (413-559-5542).

Þ      Annette Kade $2,000 Scholarships - semester and full year students (2
available for Semester 2 of 2010-11)

Þ      Annette Kade $1,000 Scholarships - semester and full year students (5
available for Semester 2 of 2010-11)

Grants will be awarded to U.S. ISEP academic year and semester exchange
participants in order to support students with a genuine interest in studying
abroad but do not have sufficient financial resources. The award criteria for
the scholarships include academic background, desire to improve language
ability, and genuine financial need.

Applications are available to download now on the ISEP website
http://www.isep.org. Students must be nominated by the Global Education Office.
The deadline is October 15, 2010. Scholarship recipients will be notified in
late November.

The Glimpse Program is a chance for students, volunteers, teachers, and other
travelers who are going abroad next semester to get their stories published at
high-profile publications--and to get paid for it. Powered by Matador, and
supported in part by the National Geographic Society, the Glimpse
Correspondents Program provides talented writers and photographers with a $600
stipend as well as one on one editorial training and support to complete an
independent journalistic work based on their experience abroad.
