Come learn about a new May/summer Short-Term Field Course in Czech
Republic & Poland, taught by Prof. Polina Barskova (HACU) and Prof. Jim
Wald (Social Science). About the course: two cities with complicated
histories, rich cultures and promising futures will become case studies
for this program. Among the theoretical foundations of this course will
be the ever -shifting paradigm of center and periphery in relation to
the European political and cultural power. The program will consist of
seminars taught by local specialists in collaboration with Hampshire
faculty as well as visits to local art and history museums. Features:
- 5-week summer program: 4 weeks in Prague, 1 week in Krakow
- hosted by the Dartmore Institute for Central European Studies

 >> Internship and Volunteer Programs in Cape Town, South Africa
Connect-123 facilitates internship, volunteer and service learning
opportunities for international undergraduate and graduate students in
Cape Town in a wide range of fields including social entrepreneurship,
education, engineering, health care, human rights, journalism, social
work, and sustainable development. Their network of local companies,
non-profit organizations, schools, research institutes and health care
clinics allows us to tailor internships according to students' specific
career goals and interests, allowing them to gain valuable work and life
experience. For all programs, they provide substantial local support,
including relatively high-end, secure housing, logistics support, and
regular social programs (ranging from cultural tours to community
service activities).

 >> Xi'an, China: Art, History, and the Silk Road
The Alliance for Global Education has a new program in Xi'an China,
hosted by Xi'an International Studies
University. This program offers beginning through advanced-level Chinese
language as well as courses taught in English in several disciplines
including ancient Chinese history, contemporary social issues, art
history, and anthropology. One of the program's highlights is a 2-week
Silk Road study trip that allows students the exciting opportunity to
see first-hand many of the historic trading, religious and artistic
sites that they learn about in the core course, the Silk Road Yesterday
and Today. All students complete the Alliance Capstone Research Project
on a topic of their choice. Another special feature of this Alliance
program is the chance to share a double room with a Chinese student
studying at XISU. Need-based scholarships ranging from $1000 to $6000 are
available.
