Greetings! My name is Nathaniel, and I am the chair of ConDuct 2,
Amherst College's second annual Science Fiction/Fantasy/Anime/Gaming
convention. The con's website is at
http://www.amherst.edu/~sffc/conduct/ It is not quite up-to-date, but
we're working on that. This email will probably be pretty long, so I'll
try to keep most of the important stuff near the top. Feel free to
email me with any questions you may have.
When: Next weekend, October 1-3, 2004.
Where: Converse Hall. This is the building with the pillars right next
to the Amherst College bus stop.
Price of Admission: Free. We'll certainly accept money if you want to
give it to us, but anyone can show up and attend all con events free of
charge.
Guests: This year, we are pleased to welcome authors Josepha Sherman and
Allen Steele to ConDuct, and webcomic artist Jeph Jacques of
www.questionablecontent.net. A number of other people will be
participating in panels as well.
Panels: Speaking of panels, there will be a lot of these, on topics
ranging from SF/F writing 101 and creating a webcomic to Elvish writing
and zombie attack survival tips. A schedule will be up on the website soon.
Screenings: We will have two screening rooms open more or less
continuously through the convention, one for anime and one for films and
other television. Over the course of the weekend we will be screening
the entirety of the first season of Firefly, and a lot of other good
stuff. For the list and showtimes, check at the registration desk.
Gaming: Games will be available for anyone who wants to play them. In
addition, there will be a few scheduled demos and one-shots, with a
chance of Magic tournament. If you're interested in running a game,
please contact me as soon as possible so we can find you a timeslot.
Boffing: As is our custom, the early part of Saturday will be largely
devoted to hitting each other with foam weapons. Warmups and weapon
construction begin at 10; war breaks out at noon. Interested parties
should contact Matt (mrpeverill at amherst.edu) with questions about
weapons, rules, and anything else related to the boffing.
Volunteers: ConDuct needs you! We are looking for gophers, screeners,
people to work the registration desk, poster distributers (especially
early this week), potential panelists, and all manner of generally
useful folk. If you'd like to help out, email me (nireden at amherst.edu)
and say so. You will have our undying love and gratitude, and if you're
really lucky, a small green alien to follow you around and make fun of
people you don't like. I can't guarantee that last one, though.
Methinks that is enough for now. I hope to see you all next weekend at
the con!
Nathaniel
