This Saturday will be a little different flavor of Excalibur.
For one, due to a scheduling conflict, we will NOT be in the East Lecture Hall
of FPH. Instead, we will be a quick walk across the way to the Merrill House
Living Room. It's a bit more snug, but there are more comfy chairs.
For another, instead of a screening at 8pm, we will instead be holding our
first EXCALIBUR MEETING of the semester. That's right, an actual meeting.
This is an open invite for any fans of SF and Fantasy films, TV shows, and
books. For comics fans, roleplayers, DMs and GMs, boardgamers, cardgamers and
videogamers. Actually, anybody and everybody should show up. We want to hear
what you want Excalibur to do for YOU this semester and in coming semesters. We
have a few ideas, including helping you run roleplaying games (we can handle
stuff like character sheet reproduction and maybe even provide some snacks). We
thought we might start a book club for SF and Fantasy book enthusiasts. Also,
we've been trying to forge closer bonds to the other 5-College groups, so if
anybody who's on this list from the other colleges would like to show up, you'd
be more than welcome.
After the meeting (we figure about 9 o' clock), we'll be showing our film,
which will be STALKER. This is a Russian science fiction film by the director
of the original "Solaris," Andrei Tarkovsky. This is a beautifully shot,
thinking-SF fan's film. From the IMDB: "Near a gray and unnamed city is The
Zone, an alien place guarded by barbed wire and soldiers. Over his wife's
strenuous objections, a man rises in the dead of night: he's a stalker, one of
a handful who have the mental gifts (and who risk imprisonment) to lead people
into The Zone to The Room, a place where one's secret hopes come true..."
This is a long film, but rewarding. Come with an open mind and I think you will
be satisfied. It's a really neat film.
Just a reminder, Deathfest is still on for the 28th of February, the Saturday
after next. Tell your friends. Tell your enemies, too, because you
might get the chance to stab them in the back and receive accolades for doing
so. We'll be starting around 6pm and playing on into Leap Day.
See you at the meeting and see you at Deathfest.
