Greetings, Excalibur Members!
Well, the fall semester is well and truly underway. I hope that everyone's
year has gotten off to a fantastic start! Here at Excalibur HQ Sam, Kate, and
I have been cooking up some ideas for the coming year, and we want your input.
To make a long story short, we want to petition Ficom (the funding guys) for a
larger Excalibur budget this year and the next. There's a good chance that
we're going to get it, and we're at the stage were we need to decide what we'll
do with the money when it arrives.
The fact is, Excalibur has been limited to mostly movie screenings and
Deathfest for the last three years, but we want to change that. I really want
to provide our members with a more comprehensive resource for gaming,
discussion, and media. To that end, we've brainstormed some ideas and we would
like you to help us add to the list or else let us know what you think of our
suggestions.
Book Group - How about a book club? We could read a book a month as a group,
with regular meetings to discuss and appreciate the material.
Comic Book Club - There are a bunch of students with HUGE comic book
collections on campus. So why not facilitate a semi-informal lending
cooperative dedicated to the appreciation of this delightful media?
Game Day - If I thought that people would come, I'd be happy to share my ever-
growing board game collection with anyone who wants to learn how to play.
LAN Party - If you want to bring your computers together, Excalibur can rent
the space for you. We might even be able to supply food or provide tech
support in the form of hubs, games, etc.
Roleplaying Support - I know there are people who want to run games. I know
there are people who want to play games. So let's bring them together and get
the ball rolling on the RPGs this year! And while we're at it, Excalibur can
provide support in the form of photocopying facilities, advertisements for your
game, food, etc. What would you like?
Guest Speakers - We're considering trying to attract some guest speakers such
as Max Brooks, author of the recently published "Zombie Survival Guide".
These are just a few of the better idea that have been running around in our
little heads like so many mice on the treadmill. So what do you think? How
can we make Excalibur useful to the entire community? Take a moment and send a
reply to my email address:
replies should be sent to:

If there's someone you know who might be interested in Excalibur, they can join
the email list by going to lists.hampshire.edu, clicking on Excalibur, and
filling in their email address. No spam. We promise. Otherwise, just help us
get the word out to all those geeks and gamers hiding in the wings. We're here
because we love this stuff, and we want you to love it too.
Sincerely,
Alex Cooley, co-signer for Excalibur
