> Hello all! Welcome to the Science Fiction/Fantasy Club mailing list.
> For those of you who don't know me, my name is Nathaniel, and I'm one of
> the co-chairs of the club. This year is going to be a very good year
> for SF/F in the Valley, and I hope that all of you enjoy it as much as
> I'm going to.
>
> Anyway, to business. First off, if you're on this list but don't want
> to be email me back and I'll remove you from it. But nobody's in that
> position, right?
>
> Second, the first meeting of the SFFC will be this Friday, September
> 12th, at 7 in Merrill 4. We'll discuss officer vacancies, the upcoming
> ConDuct (I'll explain in a minute), and ideas for things to do this
> semester. At 7:30 the Anime Club will be holding their first meeting of
> the semester in the same room, followed by a screening at 8. We like
> the Anime Club and encourage people to go to both meetings. Also, for
> those of you who really like meetings on Fridays, the Smith Science
> Fiction and Fantasy Society (SSFFS) is having their first meeting at
> 4:30 in Seelye 208 on the Smith campus. I've heard from an informed
> source that they like outside people at their meetings, so they
> shouldn't chase you away.
>
> Finally, a very big announcement:
> The weekend of September 19th-21st is ConDuct 1, Amherst College's first
> ever Science Fiction/Fantasy/Anime/Gaming Convention. It is being
> chaired by Wing and myself, and we're looking for all the help we can
> get with it. For more info on the con, visit
> http://www.amherst.edu/~sffc/conduct/ or come to the meeting on Friday.
> This is by far the biggest SF/F event that has ever come to Amherst, and
> we want it to be as good as we can make it.
>
> OK, that's all for now. See you on Friday!
>
> Nathaniel, co-chair
>
> Visit the SFFC website at http://www.amherst.edu/~sffc/ or finger "sffc"
> on planWorld!

I will note that the AmherstGaming mailing list has a calendar of fannish
events on the Yahoo! Groups Web site.
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amherstgaming/calendar>
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amherstgaming/>
You do have to subscribe to the ML to access the calendar (you have to log
in), but you can always change the settings so that you don't receive the
messages. I encourage the officers to add their club's events and for all
members to check it regularly.
