INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY in Environmental Management at High Hopes Therapeutic
Riding, Inc.

High Hopes is an internationally renowned therapeutic riding facility
providing professional education as well as full-service therapeutic riding
and vocational education programs. We are seeking a college student, or team
of college students with experience in environmental science to improve
environmental management at our facility during the summer of 2004. High
Hopes is located in pastoral Old Lyme, CT, on 80 acres that is home to 26
horses, has extensive riding trails, a pond, a large barn, 2 riding arenas
and a sizeable office building. Due to this unique layout and the
subsequent diversity of environmental impact involved, there are two
different focuses within the internship; barn/animals and office building.
In each area, the intern(s) will assess current environmental practices,
then create and implement programs that utilize all environmentally
efficient practices available. Programs should be implemented in such a way
that they can be carried out indefinitely by the staff. The duration, dates
and hours of the internship are negotiable. Host family housing may be
available at little or no cost to the intern. As an intern you will be
working with an incredibly experienced, talented and diverse staff, and will
have the opportunity to gain knowledge about therapeutic riding and business
administration of a non-profit organization. You will be assigned a staff
mentor with whom you will meet on a regular basis, and you will be invited
to attend all organizational meetings and events. Depending on experience
and interest, horseback riding may be available.
