Students looking for summer research opportunities in ecology should
look at the bulletin board outside my office (Cole south end) under
the sign "REU Students Grants",
REU (Research Opportunities for Undergrauates) is a terrific National
Science Foundation program in which students do all kinds of
scientific research throughout the US. I get sent the ecology one
and have posted those. (There are also some management jobs in the
list.) REUs pay very well and are very prestigious. You can use them
for Division III and II research.
Many deadlines for REUs and other internships are in February and
they require transcripts and letters of recommendation. So you need
to start looking now.
I will be happy to help anyone who wants help finding summer
internships or preparing application letters. To make an appointment
with me email Laurie Smith (lsmith at hampshire.edu) or call x5373.
You can stop by as well (NS office).
For internships relating to Environmental Policy/Politics, Bob Rakoff
or Stephanie Levin can help you.
