Environmental Justice and Climate Change
Saturday 11am, FPH
Think climate change a lot of hot air? Come learn how climate change (and
the industry behind it) is disproportionately affecting people of color
and low-income communities, even within the national boundaries of the
United States. Urban, rural and native communities that may not be
contributing considerably to climate change often feel its effects in
amplified ways. Leading this dialogue are two young activists who have
worked on research and organizing with the Indigenous Environmental
Network (Bemidji, MN) and the Gwich'in Tribe of northern Alaska (who
oppose oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge).
Ariele spent the summer working on Environmental Justice issues in a
native community in the boonies of northeast Alaska. Please ***PASS THIS
NOTICE ON*** to friends or colleagues who may be interested in attending
the workshop. It will last about an hour or hour and a half, and is not be
listed in the Gathering's conference packet, which was printed many days
ago.
