translation, translating from "Jewish"
languages has its own special set of
problems. These stem primarily from the
lack of familiarity with cultural
references, which may be drawn from
so-called religious practices or from
classical and historical Jewish texts and
are not in the general set of cultural
contexts. </div>

with the word "Tefillin," which translates
into English (as it were) as "Phylacteries"?</div>

translates from French, German, and
Yiddish, in addition to Hebrew. Her
translations from Hebrew include works by
prominent authors such as Michal Govrin,
Yehudah Amihai, Meir Shalev, and Nobel
Laureate S.Y. Agnon. She teaches in the
Comparative Literature department at Yale
University.</span><br>
