Five-College Data Science faculty friends,

The UMass Amherst Center for Data Science will hold its second annual
Career Mixer on the evening of Thursday October 13. I hope many of you
will consider attending, and will also consider recommending selected
MS/PhD and outstanding BS students to register and participate.

Faculty should register here: https://goo.gl/forms/xmS1UevWTzet7X5t2
Students should register here: https://goo.gl/forms/BjMsDFCd7OcdVAqY2

For more details, visit this page: https://ds.cs.umass.edu/CareerMixer2016

Student registration closes on *MONDAY October 3rd*, and students will be
required to prepare and submit posters (following guidance that we will
provide) by *FRIDAY October 7th*.

Last year we had 10 companies, over 70 students presenting research
posters, a standing dinner, lots of great technical conversation, and many
examples of successful company-student matches for internships and
employment. It is a great chance for faculty to learn about the research
of many of our grad students. In addition, attending can be a source of
funding: some companies decided to fund PhD student academic-year RAships
after seeing their posters and talking with faculty at the event.

Confirmed attendees this year include:

   - Amazon (Cambridge MA, creators of Amazon Echo)
   - BAE (Burlington MA)
   - Google (Cambridge MA, in particular computer vision and ML groups)
   - IBM (IBM TJ Watson Research Center, cognitive computing, NLP and
   reasoning)
   - Lexalytics (NLP startup with offices in Amherst)
   - MIT Lincoln Labs (Lexington MA)
   - MassMutual (Triangle Street, Amherst, Data Labs)
   - McKesson Health (Hadley, MA)
   - Meta.com <http://meta.com> (scientific research literature startup)
   - Microsoft (Cambridge MA research lab)
   - MITRE (Bedford MA)
   - Oracle Labs (Burlington MA)
   - Pratt & Whitney (logistics for manufacturing and maintenance)
   - Twitter Cortex (Cambridge MA, deep learning group)
   - UMass faculty and students from statistics, biostatistics,
   engineering, social sciences and elsewhere

Additional possible attendees this year also include:

   - MathWorks (creators of MatLab, with interest in computer vision, deep
   learning)
   - Thomson Reuters
   - State Street
   - Fidelity
   - Pearson
   - Nature Conservancy
   - iRobot

Best regards,
/Brant
