A Note from Margaret Cerullo RE Egbal Ahmad Lecture

The "Eqbal lecture" will bring young Egyptian feminist
activists in a dialogue with a sharp engaging analyst.

This is to tell you about something important happening at Hampshire next week.
It's the annual Eqbal Ahmad lectureship, Hampshire's major annual lecture.

This year's topic is EGYPT: ANATOMY OF A REVOLUTION: 4 pm Thursday, March
8th (International Women's Day) Robert Crown Center (the gym) at Hampshire
College

We will have three speakers in dialogue, two young feminist Egyptian activists,
Mozn Hassan and Kholoud Saber and Paul Amar, one of the country's most creative
scholars in critical international security studies.

Joining Amar for the lecture are Egyptian feminist activists Mozn Hassan
and Kholoud Saber.

Saber is a one of the most prominent leaders of the university student
movement.

Hassan is a lawyer, political organizer and director of Cairo's Nazra for
Feminist Studies, a women's rights research organization based in Cairo.
She is a prominent leader of the Democracy Movement in Egypt and has
worked on human rights, international law, gender policy, and
constitutional reform. Both Hassan and Saber have been actively involved in
the Egyptian Revolution.

Amar is Associate Professor in the Global& International Studies Program
at the University of California in Santa Barbara. He specializes in
international security studies, political sociology, global ethnography,
and gender/race/postcolonial theory. [for full bio, see

to engage the speakers informally.Let Margaret Cerullo (mcSS at hampshire.edu) e
know if you are intereted in
