Hello Community Advocacy Student Staff -
please consider signing up for this intergroup dialogue on race &
ethnicity and help spread the word!

Have you ever wanted to have important, meaningful conversations about
race and ethnicity, but were not sure how to get them started?

Would you like to find a safe and honest place where to discuss
difficult topics?

Would you enjoy a place where to have facilitated conversations with
people from different backgrounds, and where to develop skills in dialogue?

Are you willing to dedicate six afternoons this Spring to your personal
growth?

Then you want to attend Hampshire College's Spring Intergroup Dialogue
Program on Race and Ethnicity.

Intergroup dialogues are facilitated, face-to-face conversations between
students from two or more social identity groups that have a history of
conflict or potential conflict. In this program, we will have no more
than sixteen people participating, and the conversations will be
co-facilitated by a pair of very experienced graduates from the UMass
Social Justice Education Program.

Conducted by specially trained facilitators, Intergroup Dialogues have
been found to allow participants to make significant gains in their
understanding of themselves and others, in their ability to create
positive relationships and identify with others, in their understanding
of the complex social world around them, and in their willingness to
work toward a more diverse democratic society on campus and off.

Here are some of the details. You can also contact Jaime Dávila
(jdavila at hampshire.edu, or extension 5687) for more information.

How do you register? By filling out the form at
https://intranet.hampshire.edu/forms/viewForm.php?id=763

When will these dialogue sessions meet? Six consecutive Mondays,
starting March 22, from 3-5:30 PM, followed by dinner.

Do I have to attend all sessions, or are these sessions a repeat of each
other? These sessions build upon each other. The expectation is that
people that sign up for this program will attend all sessions. This
allows for the creation of an environment conductive to dialogue,
learning about our differences and commonalities, exploring :hot
topics,” and then developing action planning and alliance building.

Who is organizing this dialogue program? The Office for Diversity and
Multicultural Education.
