Why: Solo Traverse of the Towers of Paine 

Steve Schneider, one of the most talented climbers in North America, will by 
doing a presentation on his solo traverse of the Towers of Paine (the first 
one ever!), which he completed during a 36 hour period in 2002. Come listen to 
Steve's gnarly tales and see some awe-inspiring slides! 


About Steve: 
Steve Schneider is a world renowned climber; he has traveled the globe 
extensively, including Asia, South America, Australia, and Europe. He has 
competed strongly on the national and international climbing circuit, has 
climbed 5.14 and A5 in difficulty, and has completed 77 ascents of Yosemite's 
famed El Capitan. A prominent speed climber, he once completed three separate 
El Capitan routes in less than 24 hours. He has climbed many of Yosemite's 
most difficult routes, particularly in Tuolomne Meadows. Steve has made seven 
mountaineering expeditions to the world's greater ranges, all of which have 
been successful. He was profiled in the May/June 1997 issue of Climbing 
Magazine (issue #168). Steve was included in the new book "Fifty Favorite 
Climbs," an honor going to the fifty most accomplished climbers in North 
America. Most recently, Steve recieved 1st runner up honors for the Golden 
Piton Award for his solo traverse of the Towers of Paine in February of 2002.
