Applied Humanities Learning Lab, 2016

(AppHuLL) 2016 - a January Intensive AND Spring History 291 course -
offers a dynamic and challenging opportunity for students to hone their
humanities skills and put them into practice, as well as explore various
career paths in the public humanities.

Four students from each of the five colleges will be selected to
participate in this pathbreaking program. Working in teams and with
guidance from mentors, students will bring their humanities backgrounds
- in literature, history, theatre, art history, preservation, dance,
film, digital media, or other scholarly, artistic, creative or humanist
expressions - to bear upon real-world, meaningful projects for the SWIFT
RIVER VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND MUSEUM. [3] Students will immerse
themselves in the history and remains of the Massachusetts towns flooded
in the 1930s in order to create the Quabbin Reservoir and provide
drinking water to Boston. In exploring these histories and developing
public projects, students will embody their role as future public
humanists and transform their work into a public event of their
creation.

The 4-day J-term intensive and Spring 2015 course includes hands-on
exercises and workshops, presentations by working public humanists,
networking practice, trips to area museums and career exploration - all
designed to help students find their paths into the future.

APPHULL 2016 DATES

The Intensive - January 11-14

History 291 - Alternating Tuesdays, 6:30 - 9pm

The Presentation - Late March

PARTICIPATION IN BOTH THE JANUARY INTENSIVE AND HIST. 291 IS REQUIRED.
The Intensive is FREE but regular tuition and fees apply for the
4-credit course. All classes will be held in Herter 601 on the UMass
Campus unless informed otherwise. Questions: Contact
charned at history.umass.edu.

Apologies for any cross-postings.
