Hey all:
*Does anyone have anything that they particularly want to request from FiCom
for the coming year?
*
(Yes, I know, most of you are on FiCom already... shut up.)
*First, STATUS REPORT:
*
METAL: We are out of square A2, and are running low on 1/2"x1" 4140. We are
good on most hot-roll steel (1/4" and 1/2" square mainly) and have no
stainless or precious metals.
STUFF: I don't think anything important has been broken or has gone missing
in the last semester. Everything I use is in good order... and I blacksmith
a lot.
*Second, REQUESTS:
*
*GLENN'S/LEMELSON'S REQUESTS:
*
$10 to buy our very own 7/8" wrench
$40 or so to buy a 3rd propane tank
$50 or so to buy a plastic shed to put the tank in
$10 for a box of brass cutler rivets (for putting handles on things)
*subtotal... $110 or so*
*GUILD/EVENT REQUESTS:
*
$5 in advertising expenses, for us to put up some flyers.
$10 in printing expenses, for us to put together a binder containing all
blacksmithing knowledge we have, to pass it along to future generations.
$300 for us to do bronze casting. I will be talking to Greg after the next
Pizza Conspiracy to get more info on what is needed here, and Greg will be
supervising this activity. (I know already like 5 people who want to get on
this - "event"?)
$150 or so for a big start-of-term Open Forge (wings, mainly for those doing
demos, and $ for metal)
$100 for when we do Iron Chef Iron (half in food, half in equipment - mini
DV tapes, also the metal)
*SUBTOTAL: around 550*
GENERAL REQUESTS:
$20 to buy 5lb of kosher salt, to bring our quench bucket up to 10% brine
solution
$100 for new hammers (a 1500g and a 2000g, neither of which we have, and
maybe a 2nd 1000g Swedish, so we don't always fight over it).
$1000 for new metal
-2 1/2" square O1 for hammer-heads
-A2 flat stock 1/4x1, 1/4x2, 1/2x1, 1/2x2 for beveling
-50' of 1" hollow square hot-roll, which I promise will be used
-assorted other metals for us to play with
*SUBTOTAL: 1100 or so
*
Yes, we have room to store all of this stuff.
Yes, I expect all of it will be used in the coming semester.
No, not only by me. We have lots new interest in the guild and I would love
to drum up new interest, so I can pass on what little I've learned.
Yes, you should all pass on what you've learned too, graduating people.
Including passing it along to me :)
Any thoughts?
