Welcome (back, for some of you) to Hampshire!
The Blacksmiths Guild is set for one of our best semesters yet. We have a
lot of new interest and a lot of really great events and maybe even trips
planned. We hope to see you all active and excited this semester, so if
there are any workshops, events, or trips you think we should take, please
let one of your signers know so we can get $$ for it from FiCom!
A breakdown of what is coming soon:
NOW (tonight):
-Safety Training, 7pm. If you've never taken the general Lemelson Safety
Training before, you need to take it before you can come smithing... but you
only ever have to take it once, so it is a good thing to get out of the way.
If you cant make it tonight, starting next week Safety Training is every
Thursday at 7pm or by appointment with Glenn Armitage in the Lemelson
Center.
-Open Forge, 9pm. We're going to kick things off and get things moving for
the semester by hosting our first open forge night TONIGHT at 9pm! We will
meet every Tuesday night from 9pm-11pm throughout the semester. Please
remember to wear closed-toed shoes and non-synthetic clothing to prevent
injuries to yourself and others.
SOON
-Lemelson Casino Night is this Thursday, 6-9pm. Free food, Free Gambling,
and some prizes. Always a good time. Come in your best casino attire!
-Old Sturbridge Village trip, TBD. Please talk to or email Sebastian Bertsch
(our new signer) at sjb08 at hampshire.edu ASAP if you are interested.

-Blacksmith Meet at Hampshire College, October 4th, 9:30amish-3:00pmish. Our
biggest event of the year, come meet professional and student smiths from
all over new england. This year is particularly special, as it marks the 10
year anniversary of Blacksmithing at Hampshire College. Our student
contingent at this Hampshire hosted and funded event is inconsistent, and it
is probably the best chance for you to learn new and interesting techniques
from some of the best master smiths I've ever seen at work. There is free
breakfast and lunch, so don't worry about missing Saga.
EVENTUALLY
Jan Term class? Forge Welding workshops? Trips to see master smiths in their
own shops? The sky is the limit. If you have a proposal for a
trip/event/workshop/speaker/piece of equipment/class/project, or basically
anything else that is interesting and related to Blacksmithing, let us know
so that we can plan it and try to get money from FiCom for it!
Hope to see you all tonight at Lemelson at 9PM. Remember that safety
training is at 7PM if you have not yet done it.
