Hey All -
The semester has begun, the Blacksmiths' Guild was fully funded, and we'll have
open forges happening starting this THURSDAY from 9-11pm. Anyone of any
experience level, from never picked up a hammer to experienced smith, (as
always) can show up with project ideas or just a desire to learn, and
experienced student smiths will be on hand to teach you what you need to know.
This semester we will be offering a class of some sort on Tuesday nights, also
from 9-11pm. We're not quite sure what the format will be, or what the
enrolment cap will be (probably depends somewhat on interest). Note that
Tuesday classes will be something more of a commitment than Thursday nights -
we won't give homework that we're going to REQUIRE that you get done and we're
not going to be giving demerits out if you don't show up, but the idea is that
we'll be asking you to show up with relative consistency so you can learn a
much broader and more thorough set of skills over the semester than you might
by attending open forge alone. Please email me with a subject line of
'Blacksmithing Class' or something similar if you are interested. We'll be
hashing details out on this class this weekend sometime.
To all: IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN THE LEMELSON SAFETY TRAINING COURSE YET, TAKE IT.
We want everyone to be able to smith safely and to keep the shop running
according to institutional guidelines, so PLEASE take it before showing up for
open forge nights. It happens every Thursday night at 7pm-8pm (and if you show
up for design conspiracy from 6-7pm, there is free pizza), and you only have to
take the class ONE THURSDAY.
To summarize:
Open Forge - Thursdays 9-11pm
Class - Tuesday 9-11pm, email dcc06 w/ "Blacksmith Class" subject if interested
Safety Training - Thursdays 7-8pm
Hammer on!
