Hi Amy, Please forward this to ASL list. I will make copies of this flyer on Tuesday, so students can post it everywhere on campus. Thanks so much and have a good weekend. Hello everyone, Please see the attached flyer for information on a talk next week by Seth Gore and Steph Kent. Seth is a senior at Gallaudet who wrote a fictional story, The Buzz Buzz Boom, that Steph used in teaching a class on Interpersonal Communication. The hearing students had a hard time recognizing that the lead character in Seth's story is Deaf and was using ASL to talk with his girlfriend. The presentation at Hampshire College, Thursday March 10, at 7 pm, will feature Seth talking about how he came to write the story and how Seth has responded to the hearing students' reactions. Steph will talk about the learning process that the hearing students went through to learn about culture and language differences. Maybe we can all learn to pay more attention to the unfamiliar and unexpected? The event will be interpreted in ASL and English. Hope to see you there! _______________________________________________ To JOIN or remove yourself from this list, or request it in digest format, go here: https://list.umass.edu/mailman/listinfo/signers-l Signers-l mailing list is a service of the western MA region of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (MA-RID) in cooperation with the Emergency Operations Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
