These students have developed an educational but entertaining look at ASL Storytelling - a performance art of the Deaf Community. The students demonstrate some of the unique art forms found in ASL Storytelling: ABC Stories, Number Stories, Deaf Jokes, and Poetry written and/or performed by Deaf artisans. They also "borrow" and reshape some art forms from the Hearing Community (music, slapstick comedy), adding their own particular angle. The group was formed during the Spring 2006 semester, and made their debut in April 2006 at the Collegiate Education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons 19th Annual Gala at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. They have been developing this production since the Fall 2006 semester to "take on the road" to Connecticut high schools as a community service. The 45-minute performance provides some insight into the culture of the Deaf Community and to a unique performance art: ASL Storytelling.
