In case you missed the PBS special or even if you saw it, the discussion
afterward should be interesting...
I would like to go if anyone would like to join me, just send me an email.

THROUGH DEAF EYES AT HOOKER-DUNHAM THEATER & GALLERY
BRATTLEBORO Twilight Music presents Through Deaf Eyes, a two-hour
documentary by Lawrence Hott and Diane Garey that explores almost 200
years of American history: the experience of the Deaf community in the
United States from 1814 to the present, at Hooker-Dunham Theater &
Gallery on Friday, April 27 at 7:00 pm. The film is fully captioned for
screening and Director/Producer Lawrenece Hotts introduction and post
film discussion will be ASL interpreted.
Through Deaf Eyes is a remarkable film - a window on a world that most
viewers don't even know exists, with fascinating history, memorable
characters, and issues that are wrenching and thought-provoking. This is
an American story, told in an array of settings. The film includes
stories on the creation of deaf schools, the debate about American Sign
Language, the campaign for a deaf telephone, the fight for a deaf
president at Gallaudet University and some very loud rock and roll. The
film includes six short films by deaf filmmakers, covering subjects that
confront not only deaf Americans, but all Americans.
Through Deaf Eyes is the story of a hidden and complex culture in
America, a story of conflicts and prejudice that reaches the heart of
what it means to be human. The deaf minority has seldom if ever had a
voice. This documentary provides that voice and that story, for the
first time ever.
The film is a production of WETA Washington, D.C., and Florentine
Films/Hott Productions in association with Gallaudet University.
Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery is located at 139 Main Street in
downtown Brattleboro, VT. Tickets for the film are $7 General / $5
Seniors and Students. For information, call 802-254-9276 or email
