YOU ARE INVITED.....

DEAN'S BEANS RAISING THE BAR COFFEE CELEBRATION
Celebrate Dean's Beans signing of the first ever long-term fair trade
agreement by an American coffee company

Please join us for the Dean's Beans Raising the Bar Coffee Celebration on
Thursday, May 8 from 8-10pm at the Black sheep in Amherst. Enjoy free
organic, fair trade coffee, talk with Dean Cycon, owner of Dean's Beans,
and Hiderico Bocangel, manager of the Oro Verde Coffee Cooperative in
Peru. Enjoy live Central and South American music by MarKamusic.

Part of Fair Trade Awareness Week activities, this event is sponsored by
Dean's Beans, the Amherst Fair Trade Partnership, and the Black Sheep in
Amherst. It is free and open to the public. Children are welcome.

Dean's Beans is proud to be the first ever American importer of Oro Verde
Coffee, and the first to sign a long term fair trade agreement with the
Oro Verde Cooperative. This agreement marks the first time an American
coffee company has signed a long-term fair trade agreement with any
fair trade coffee cooperative.

By signing this agreement, Dean's Beans has once again raised the bar for
the entire American coffee industry, challenging other companies- large
and small- to do more to promote economic and social justice in the
coffeelands, and to prioritize the wellbeing of farmers and their
children.

“Everybody talks about long-term commitment, but no one has been willing
to commit themselves to what that really means. We are hoping that this
agreement will model the possibilities for others interested in the
welfare of the coffee communities they buy from as well as the long term
success of their own companies,” Cycon said.

ABOUT DEAN’S BEANS
Deans Beans is a family-owned certified organic, fair trade, $3 million
specialty coffee company based in Orange, MA. The company is dedicated to
providing reasonably priced, great tasting coffee in a manner that
supports and exemplifies its core belief in peaceful social chance. They
do this at home and abroad through: Ethical buying and business
practices, progressive development projects, and sound ecological
practices.

The company designs and funds people-centered development projects in the
coffee lands in partnership with the growers, and returns a percentage of
profits to the growers as a Social Equity Premium, giving Deans Beans the
distinction of paying farmers more per pound of coffee than any other
company in the United States.

Dean’s Beans is the winner of the Best Practices Recognition Award from
the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the
Specialty Coffee Association of America’s Sustainability Award. In
August, 2004, Dean’s Beans become the first coffee company in America to
conduct an independent Fair Trade Audit. The results and supporting
documentation are posted on the website.

For more information: Melanie DeSilva, Special Projects Coordinator
413-687-1269
978-544-2002 x12
www.deansbeans.com.

Melanie DeSilva
Special Projects
Dean's Beans Organic Coffee
50 R.W.
