<p style="text-indent: 0.5in; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">In
light of the recent (Dec. 18, 2007) FCC ruling allowing media conglomerates to
control more media outlets, on the heels of the Jena Six case, and the two-year
commemoration of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, among other critical social
issues, we are in need of discussions with national artists, activists,
journalists, students and scholars about the ramifications of these historic
events and the implications for organizing communities across the country.</p>

<p style="text-indent: 0.5in; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">This <b>two-day
conference</b> (April 25<sup>th</sup>-26<sup>th</sup>,
2008) will put scholars, artists, activists and intellectuals in conversation
with each other and the student body about the political mission of Hip Hop
culture.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>This conference
will engage youth in the area to think critically about media practices
nationally and globally.<span>&nbsp; </span>These
activists, artists, and intellectuals will discuss such topics as independent
media, race and Hip Hop, political organizing among youth of color,
commoditization and sexuality in Hip Hop, and Hip Hop aesthetics, among other
subjects that may come up in the course of discussion.</p><p style="text-indent: 0.5in; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">A
meet and greet event will kick-off the conference where students and local
youth will be able to meet and talk with invited guests about ways they can
actively participate in media justice efforts.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>The conference will culminate with a concert featuring
