unions as their worst enemy. Either they don't understand unionism, they're just
waffling, or they're jaded 1990's ideologues. Wal-Mart is now suffering the
inevitable result of this paradoxical thinking. They are facing huge class
action suits from employees; other workers' cases have already cost them
millions; profits are way down; competitors have overtaken them; a number of
overseas ventures have failed; internal ructions have developed; investor
confidence has crumbled; and churches have joined unions and environmental
groups in criticising the company for human rights abuses.<SPAN
