More Information:

It's been two years since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf South and shocked the world with our government's racist negligence.
In those two years thousands of people have mobilized to take back and re-build their communities in the face of major displacement, closed schools, shut down housing developments, unavailable public resources, and the transformation of many formerly culturally vibrant neighborhoods into commercial developments.

In those two years over 500 people (including Leslie and Anna) from around the nation have come together under the name "Gulf South Allied Funders" to raise $1million/year from 2006-2008 to support the just and equitable rebuilding of the Gulf South. We partnered with the 21st Century Foundation who has the knowledge, experience and capacity to distribute the funds we raise with an eye towards addressing the root causes of the problems in the Gulf South. The 21st Century Foundation, the leading black foundation doing hurricane relief work, has now distributed over $1.48 million to 144 organizations including; Citizens United for Economic Equity, The Lower Ninth Ward Neighborhood Empowerment Network Association, Coastal Women for Change, Turkey Creek Community Initiatives, Artists for Life, and Focusing Our Community Upon Sustainability.

Please come share food and drink with us, view segments of Spike Lee's film, "When the Levees Broke" and hear from two founding members of the
Gulf South Allied Funders, the work of the 21st Century Foundation and the amazing groups they support, and stories about what has happened in the Gulf South since Hurricane Katrina.

We hope to see you there!
