size=3>We are writing you to ask your organization to join the Pioneer Valley
Coalition Against Secrecy and Torture and the Government Department of Smith
College in sponsoring a town/gown educational forum about Torture and Detention
without Trial to be held at <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Smith</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType>, Wednesday, April 25 at 7 pm at
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Smith</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. Activist Frida
Berrigan and attorney Buz Eisenberg will be speaking about their first-hand
knowledge of the Guantanamo Bay Prison, torture, rendition, black sites and what
can be done about them.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face="Times New Roman"
size=3> </FONT></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"
size=3>We find our nation in a Constitutional and moral crisis, with our leaders
creating and carrying out programs of kidnap, “disappearance” and torture in
prisons around the world. The Military Commissions Act has effectively
eliminated the right of legal appeal of imprisonment and what goes on behind the
prison walls for untold numbers of men, women and children held in our country’s
War on Terror mocks our claims of civility and democracy. </FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face="Times New Roman"
size=3> </FONT></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman"
size=3>We firmly believe that the people must know in order to act when the
leaders are violating human rights. And, most importantly, our young people must
help us lead.</FONT></P>

outrage that all people of conscience must feel when such policies are exposed.
