know: that cliche is a cup of crap! Words can shoot from a soft mouth
bullet-mean and rock-hard. Words can shatter hearts, teeth, and other
bones...</font></div>

<div><font face="arial narrow" size="3">Once,
a tired student (too irritated to be challenged), mouthed off to one of
my favorite acting teachers, Susannah Barryman. Susannah simply raised
her eyebrows, took a minute to realign her spine and projected her
voice to fill the classroom. "I want everyone to pick a partner and sit
down," she said. "Look that person in the left eye and just breathe
together." After five minutes of shrugging giggles and awkward
inhalations and exhalations she instructed, "Continue to look your
partner in the eye. I want you to take turns. I want you to tell your
person, 'I have the power to HURT you.'" My partner and I both
hesitated, then shivered as we recited the phrase, five
times each. "Now," Susannah continued, "say 'I have the power to HELP
you.'" </font></div>

exercise changed my life! It also changed the dynamic in the classroom.
Once we articulated our knowledge of the power to hurt or to help, we
knew that every praise or curse we made from then on wasn't a fluke,
but a choice. Words can rouse WORLDS. We can pronounce ourselves into
oblivion or we can prophet into existence a planet abundant with love...</font></div>
