systems change. People seriously concerned with peace, democracy, equality,
liberty and ecological sustainability need to stand back and understand that
pessimism is the drug of those who oppose change; that radical change often
emerges seemingly unexpectedly, out of dark eras of pain; that a new political
economic vision which democratizes the ownership of capital in ways different
from both corporate capitalism and state socialism is needed; and that there are
things which can be done, now - all over the country - to further the practical
basis of such a vision, communicate it to fellow Americans - and,
simultaneously, to begin to debate its ultimate long term theoretical
