THE SUCCESSFUL HISTORY OF ACTIVE NONVIOLENCE

Video/Film Series Starts February 1 at Amherst College

The Successful History of Active Nonviolence is the subject of a seven
week documentary video series beginning on Wednesday, February 1 and
continuing on Wednesday evenings through March 15 at Amherst College.
This series focuses on how unarmed "people power" has been used
in countries around the world to topple tyrants, resist oppression, and
struggle for freedom and justice. All showings, which begin at 7:00 p.m.,
are free, open and followed by discussion. They will be held in the
theater on the lower level of the Keefe Campus Center.
Throughout history, individuals, groups, and nations have used violence
as a means of achieving "just" ends. Yet the history of
this last bloody century also makes clear that there is, in fact, an
alternative. That alternative is active nonviolence, which these films
dramatically depict.
