Lillian Santiago, a Puerto Rican  city councilor in Holyoke has been
fighting a multinational water corporation trying to privatize the city=B9s
sewer system. She will report on the Mayor=B9s administration=B9s  backlash=20=
to
her courageous stands that has threatened her life.

The city=B9s police chief =B3outed=B2  her for reporting drug dealers who ar=
e
destroying the neighborhoods of her constituents. Her life has been
threatened  because his =B3outing=B2 of her was published in the Springfield
Republican with her picture, so she is suing him. She now needs people to
walk with her to help her campaign door-to-door, to feel safe.

For those who saw =B3Voices of a People=B9s History=B2 with Howard Zinn perf=
ormed
at Mt. Holyoke College this past week,  Lillian was supposed to be a part of
the program,  but  SHE HAD TO DROP OUT AT THE LAST MINUTE BECAUSE SHE WAS
urgently NEEDED AT  a Holyoke city council meeting because the EPA fined
Holyoke over the sewer situation.
So, while Valley residents enjoying the readings of Western Mass. Radical
activists from history, Lillian Santiago was  down in Holyoke joining six
other city councilors trying to keep a corporation from taking over a city
service.  Her struggles against drug dealers who bring drugs to the whole
Valley, and against a multi-national corporation seeking to privatize water
all over our region, are causes worthy of our help.
