CNA/NNOC is joining forces with two other leading RN organizations, the
United American Nurses and the Massachusetts Nurses Association to create
the largest staff nurse union in U.S. history - the United American
Nurses-National Nurses Organizing Committee, UAN-NNOC (AFL-CIO).

What the new organization means is even more clout in fighting to preserve,
protect, and improve our contract standards, our ratios, our patient
protections, and our professional practice.

For CNA/NNOC members, your contracts, representation, and leadership remain,
only stronger than ever, with national reinforcements. For California RNs,
it means added strength for our national campaign for RN-to-patient ratios
in every state and in Congress to help protect our California standards.

For RNs throughout the U.S., it means greater power for RNs at the bedside
in confronting multi-state hospital employers, and a stronger voice in
Washington in pressing for genuine, guaranteed healthcare for all Americans.

"What a proud, dramatic and exciting moment -- and an opportunity for other
direct care RNs who we hope will join this movement," said CNA/NNOC
Co-President Deborah Burger, RN.

UAN-NNOC will unify 150,000 direct-care RNs from coast to coast working
together to achieve RN ratios, rights, and representation for all American
nurses - under the core principle that RNs should be represented by an RN
union.

Goals of the new national organization include commitments to:

1.	Build an RN movement in order to defend and advance the interests of
direct-care nurses across the country;
2.	Organize all non-union direct-care RNs;
3.	Provide a powerful national voice for RN rights, safe RN practice,
including RN-to-patient staffing ratios under the principle that safe
staffing saves lives, and health care justice;
4.	Provide a vehicle for solidarity with sister nurse and allied
organizations around the world;
5.	Create a national Taft-Hartley pension for union RNs.
